Maine maple Sunday March 25th, 2012

Join Maine’s maple producers to celebrate Maine Maple Sunday on March 25, 2012.   Nearby sugar houses  offering free tasting include Freyenhagen’s Family Farm, Union.  Sparky’s Apiaries, Hope.   Golden Nugget Sugar Shack, Appleton.  All offering free tastings/ demonstrations of how syrup is produced from tap to table.    Sweetgrass  Farm Winery & Distillery, Union  will offer tastings of it’s  Maple Smash liqueur and distilling demonstration.  Yum!

US National toboggan Championships Feb 10-12th

The U.S. National Toboggan Championships is the only organized wooden toboggan race in the country and possibly the world. The toboggan chute is located in Camden, Maine at the Camden Snow Bowl, just a few miles from the  Blue Harbor House.  The competition attracts fierce competition from all over the world.  We have several competitors from last year’s event  coming back to compete again- we’re  looking forward to seeing your wonderful wacky costumes.  Good luck!

Singing Valentines by Windjammer Barbershop chorus

Camden Winterfest, Saturday Jan 28th

This coming Saturday will mark the 10-year anniversary of the Camden Winterfest.   Ice carvings will be created all day long in the Camden Amphitheater by local amateurs and artists.  Winterfest opens Jan. 28 at noon with music and crafts inside and skating and live music outside.  It’s a fun day for all!

Camden named third best foliage town in New England

A recent online poll by Yankee magazine (YankeeFoliage.com) awarded Camden  third best Fall foliage town. What a great accolade!  Camden  has everything a visitor is looking for, color intensity against the backdrop of the rocky coast, scenic drives, hikes and a whole host of outdoor recreation—adding to that world class dining, lodging, shopping and cultural venues.  Hope to see you in Camden soon….

A taste of Scotland in Maine

We have a couple of new additions to our beer selection.  Couldn’t  believe it  when our State of Maine beer supplier told us they had Scottish beer in stock!    So we now have two wonderful new beers for you to try.     We have Belhaven Pale Ale and Belhaven Scottish stout.

Conway Homestead, Cramer museum bean supper, Aug 20th.

If you love history and baked beans then you might want to head to Camden and enjoy a traditional ‘Bean-hole’ supper, at the Conway house, one of the areas oldest homesteads.   So what is a bean-hole supper?

Well,  a deep hole is dug in the ground.  It s lined with stones and logs , lit,  and and  after some time there will be  a deep layer of hot embers. Then,a huge black iron cauldron filled with yellow-eye beans mixed with molasses, salt pork and a touch of cinnamon and clove onto the heat, is lowered into the hole , covered , and left to cook.  It is served with roasted pork, coleslaw and more.   Sound interesting?  Then visit Camden Sat 20 Aug to take part.  Price $10 for adults.
