it’s with great pleasure that we live so close to the action in the heart of Camden Village. Among the many events and activities that surround us, each Winter would not be complete without a dose of the Camden Conference and it’s earthly discussions and forums. Hundreds of fans flock to the area to witness the weekends events. Participants, staff and local die hards make the pilgrimage in whatever weather they’re up against, and the fun begins!
This year, the weekend of February 20th, the topic of discussion happens to be Russia Resurgent, and it’s bound to be interesting. The last time Russia was a topic at the Conference was way back in 1994, and many things have happened since then. This discussion will take those 20+ years and boil them down to a “dueling narrative.”
For more information, visit the Camden Conference’s website and stay tuned to their Facebook page for all the details.
Ho Ho Ho! Merry Christmas?! The Holiday season seems to be here, whether we’re anxious or not, the yuletide is upon us. We have free Christmas wrapping paper/tape etc available for all those wonderful gifts you have to give, and a complimentary hot peppermint patty (hot choc and peppermint schnapps!) while you enjoy your stay!
In reality, Black Friday, Cyber Monday and those other “retail inspired” celebrations are NOTHING in comparison to what we “small townies” or “village people” call a good time. We have the lighting of the star atop Mt. Battie, the Parade of Lights in Downtown Rockland and a similar daytime idea for Camden as well. Breakfast with Santa at the Chowder House, and much, much more to occupy our time. Sheesh! Santa even takes the time to cruise into some local harbors by boat, as the reindeer stay on ice atop the North Pole. Whatever we’re doing, it’s all relevant, and made possible by hundreds of volunteers, business owners, and Community members alike who LOVE the season, and love to help out. We’re grateful for the good times, and memories that are made. For more information, if you’re here for the duration, we encourage you to visit our local Chamber of Commerce’s event on their Facebook page!

For a short time this next week, two amazing vessels are docked right here, inside of our very own Camden Harbor. The Niña is in fact the most historically accurate Columbus replica ship that’s ever been built. The Pinta, although larger and more accommodating to tours and private parties or charters, accompanies her “sister ship” to offer tourists, onlookers, and guests the chance for the “big picture.”
These two “ladies” travel all around the World giving kids, adults, and seniors the chance to experience a little history in their own backyard. You can visit them here to find out where they’re going next, the cost of a tour, or perhaps a special request for a private charter or tour of your very own.
Shirttail Point is one of our favorites, Terry is a certified diving instructor, and that’s where the lessons are held. It’s easy access from the main road, and has ample parking, and a nice grassy area for a picnic or a lounge. If you’re here in Camden at the moment, the crowds of people have yet to come, it’s a nice time to enjoy a warm day with a good book and a beach towel.
If you’re out and about, Lincolnville and their amazing coastline have what you’re looking for. There’s wonderful dining options on either side of you, and the nice calm bay area that’s suitable for an “all age” family. Incredible views to the islands nearby, and a good stretch to walk along in hopes of finding some sea glass!
Laite Beach here in Camden is another optimal choice. A little closer to town than Shirttail, it’s also got a pretty decent area to picnic or lounge.
Whatever your choice may be, we wish you the best of fun. Remember to find us on Facebook, and Twitter and comment below with your favorite spot here in Camden!
Cellist April Reed Cox will be playing at the Farmers market today. It’s also free plant day so come and claim yours! What better start to the day than with good food and beautiful music? Open 9.00am-12.00
