A frigid Maine Maple Sunday!

Reports came in early this morning that mentioned how unbelievably cold it was in statewide forecasts. Temperatures that low and those interested in the Maine Maple’s first “official” offering were given the news that they probably could’ve lived without. The syrup might not be up to par for the “usual” yearly offering. Believe it or not, the crowds formed anyway! Some say that hundreds passed through their establishments asking questions, sampling what they could, and preparing for what is supposed to be a very good year for the maple community. That seems to be something you can count on here in the Midcoast, (or maybe in all of Maine!?) no matter the weather, the distance you have to travel, or any other conditions that are out of your control, we still show up (in varying numbers) to witness the small miracles that make this state the “Vacationland” it’s so been named. After all, it is “the way life should be!”

For a complete list of Maple vendors, and any other information you can imagine, check out the Maine Maple Producers website.

Welcome Camden Conference Attendee’s and Presenters!

it’s with great pleasure that we live so close to the action in the heart of Camden Village. Among the many events and activities that surround us, each Winter would not be complete without a dose of the Camden Conference and it’s earthly discussions and forums. Hundreds of fans flock to the area to witness the weekends events. Participants, staff and local die hards make the pilgrimage in whatever weather they’re up against, and the fun begins!

This year, the weekend of February 20th, the topic of discussion happens to be Russia Resurgent, and it’s bound to be interesting. The last time Russia was a topic at the Conference was way back in 1994, and many things have happened since then. This discussion will take those 20+ years and boil them down to a “dueling narrative.”

For more information, visit the Camden Conference’s website and stay tuned to their Facebook page for all the details.

Winterfest 2015!

A new year means a new set of wonderful events here in the Camden area. Coming up in the next week, we’ll have Winterfest 2015! Winterfest is a collection of events for all ages. The kids get to watch movies, play games, and see sights in and around the Camden Public Library. The entire family will get to see the ice carving competition, ski and snowboard at the Camden Snow Bowl, and watch movies presented at the Camden Opera House. We love the excitement that builds up for Camden’s very own U.S. National Toboggan Championships. The Championships are a nationally publicized event that give Camden a big ol’ smile when the teams head down the chute in full costume. The day is filled with food, fun, laughter and good vibes. We trust you’ve found your way to the area, and we hope that you’ll enjoy a visit to the Blue Harbor House.

Christmas by the Sea 2014!

IMG_1154Ho Ho Ho! Merry Christmas?! The Holiday season seems to be here, whether we’re anxious or not, the yuletide is upon us. We have free Christmas wrapping paper/tape etc available for all those wonderful gifts you have to give, and a complimentary hot peppermint patty (hot choc and peppermint schnapps!) while you enjoy your stay!

In reality, Black Friday, Cyber Monday and those other “retail inspired” celebrations are NOTHING in comparison to what we “small townies” or “village people” call a good time. We have the lighting of the star atop Mt. Battie, the Parade of Lights in Downtown Rockland and a similar daytime idea for Camden as well. Breakfast with Santa at the Chowder House, and much, much more to occupy our time. Sheesh! Santa even takes the time to cruise into some local harbors by boat, as the reindeer stay on ice atop the North Pole. Whatever we’re doing, it’s all relevant, and made possible by hundreds of volunteers, business owners, and Community members alike who LOVE the season, and love to help out. We’re grateful for the good times, and memories that are made. For more information, if you’re here for the duration, we encourage you to visit our local Chamber of Commerce’s event on their Facebook page!

Maine Made 2014!

With a selection of vendors specifically selected from the State of Maine, our very own “Maine Made 2014″ will take place next Saturday, the 22nd of November 2014 at the Samoset Resort in Rockland, Maine. The event will feature artisans, crafters, and food vendors to delight your heart, in hopes to make Christmas shopping as easy as possible, while keeping the money close to home. Be sure to stop by if you’re in the area, and if you’re not, send the link from our Chamber of Commerce to your friends! MMHeader

#Snovember!

Talk about a storm! What was forecast as something equal to a good dose of snow inducing weather turned into something out of an action movie. Ferociously strong winds, heavy, moist snow, and cold temperatures gave this storm a serious power boost. Trees all around Camden, Rockport, Rockland and the rest of the Midcoast paid the ultimate price. Of course when the trees came down, they had to interact with the wires laid up and down the roadway. We’ve heard the maximum outages they calculated were up into the 80,000 mark. Central Maine Power had their hands full, and are sill trying to restore power across the region.

One thing we took into effect was preparedness. When road conditions are impassable, you need to have supplies on hand to eat, heat, and entertain you while the power is restored. Many of us rely on our different forms of communication, and if the batteries on these devices die, we’re left feeling stranded. Make a plan, gather what you need, and prepare for the future. A huge thank you to everyone that gave a helping hand in the Community at large.

Snow possible for this weekend?

The forecast model seems quite promising, we might see flurries that accumulate anywhere from 3-5″ this weekend. Happy Halloween!? Crazy, right? On the bright side, we’re looking forward to an amazing season at the newly revamped Camden Snow Bowl. We’re talking triple chair lifts, a few new paths to carve, the tubing hill (always a great time!) and of course the toboggan races!

Coming off of an incredible Summer and Fall season, we’re excited to see our guests who might join us this Winter for an incredible time at one of the many attractions we have. The Camden International Film Festival, and our very own PopTech were an amazing success. If you were with us, and you happened to get pictures, we’d love to see them on our Facebook page, www.facebook.com/blueharborhouse

Thanks!

PopTech!

Welcome to mid-October 2014!

Here on the Midcoast, we’re all so grateful for the nice cool nights, warmer days, and spectacular events that surround us. This year, we celebrated the 10th annual Camden International Film Festival, (congrats to the winners!) On top of that, we’re getting ready to welcome in another spectacular year of PopTech! and all of it’s awesomeness. Well before these events took place, we had an amazing Summer filled with local Community events, concerts, talks, and all the fresh blueberries, apples, and other local goodies you could imagine! As Winter draws closer, we look forward to the events at the Camden Snow Bowl!

We are truly a lucky Community!

Keep your eyes peeled for the amazing Fall foliage to make it’s last hurrah up and down the Coast, and let us know what YOU did this Summer or Fall to make the most out of your time here!

Welcome, Fall!

The State of Maine is truly one of the greatest states to be in for the Fall Foliage “watchers” to gather and witness the changing colors of the leaves. Yesterday marked the official “start” to the season. Reports from the Maine Foliage website, indicate that much of our Northernmost region is still quite green, but the color is on it’s way.

Since the weather has been typically colder at night, this is said to bring the color out even faster. We’re still weeks away from the full “change” to take place, so that gives you plenty of time to plan your getaway and come in for a visit!

Boats, Homes, and Harbors!

It’s just about time for another amazing weekend filled with the latest and greatest innovations in Maine’s very own “Boats, Homes, and Harbors Show.” If you’re in the mood for some of the best of Maine’s fine artists, architects, boatbuilders, craftsmen, designers, furniture makers, jewelers, and marine gear vendors, then you’ll be right at home!

For their 12th annual event, the fine folks at “Maine Boats, Homes, and Harbors” are taking their crowd by storm. Expect a variety of live music, fine fresh food, an activities area for children (of ALL ages) and the 12th running of the World Championship Boatyard Dog® Trials!

We’ll be ready to take your reservations for this spectacular weekend event!
