The U.S. National Toboggan Championships is the only organized wooden toboggan race in the country and possibly the world. The toboggan chute is located in Camden, Maine at the Camden Snow Bowl, just a few miles from the Blue Harbor House. The competition attracts fierce competition from all over the world. We have several competitors from last year’s event coming back to compete again- we’re looking forward to seeing your wonderful wacky costumes. Good luck!

If you love history and baked beans then you might want to head to Camden and enjoy a traditional ‘Bean-hole’ supper, at the Conway house, one of the areas oldest homesteads. So what is a bean-hole supper?
Well, a deep hole is dug in the ground. It s lined with stones and logs , lit, and and after some time there will be a deep layer of hot embers. Then,a huge black iron cauldron filled with yellow-eye beans mixed with molasses, salt pork and a touch of cinnamon and clove onto the heat, is lowered into the hole , covered , and left to cook. FREE classic Motown concert at Camden Harbor Park on July 3 at 8:30 p.m. ”Dancing in the Street”with Jr. Walker & the Allstars performing. During the intermission there will be a fantastic fireworks display over Camden Harbor!

Seven land-accessible lighthouses along the mid-Maine coast will open for the Midcoast Maine Lighthouse Challenge, a two-day self-guided driving tour along the coastline from Pemaquid Point, tipping the peninsula south of Damariscotta, to Castine, on the western edge of the Blue Hill peninsula. Most will open their towers to visitors. Also part of the itinerary is the Maine Lighthouse Museum, in Rockland, just nine miles from the Blue harbor House Inn.
Included on the tour are: Dyce’s Head Light, Castine; Fort Point, Stockton Springs; Grindle Point Light, Islesboro; Rockland Breakwater Light, Rockland; Owls Head Light, Owls Head; Marshall Point Light, Port Clyde; and Pemaquid Point Light, Pemaquid.
Special displays at the Rockand Breakwater Lighthouse, Saturday and Sunday, 9 a.m.-3 p.m., will highlight modern optics for lighthouses and navigation and show how the Coast Guard keeps the lights at many of Maine’s offshore stations. The M/V Rendezvous will offer water passage to the lighthouse throughout the day, from Middle Pier in Rockland, or hike nearly one-mile hike along the breakwater to reach the lighthouse at its tip.

Camden has also recently been declared the best Main Street in New England by Boston Magazine, the prettiest harbor in Maine by the readers of Down East, one of New England’s top 25 foliage towns by Yankee magazine.
